Love and Spooky Day
Carlos took Thursday off from gigs, deciding to spend the morning and afternoon catching up on some housework and some final things to make the place feel a little more homey. First things first, of course, Toto needed to be cleaned and sheared.
He'd had this little sheep for two days, and Carlos would die for him.
Carlos spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon tidying up the house. He baked a fresh loaf of bread for breakfasts, tended to his plants, and finally got around to the laundry that had rapidly piled up. He couldn't help but admire his parents for being so on top of the never-ending cycle, even with their busy careers.
Once the house was cleaned up and in good shape, Carlos sent Mirabel a message, inviting her to come over for dinner and a movie.
Mirabel was quick to agree, and arrived at the house a couple hours later. She greeted Carlos enthusiastically, and was eager to see his new home.
"When you said you'd found a house, I didn't think it would be this big!" Mirabel exclaimed.
"I'll take you to meet Toto, then we can have dinner." Carlos told her with a smile.
"Who's Toto?"
"My mini sheep."
After Carlos introduced Mirabel to Toto, they went back inside so he could start dinner for them. While he cooked, they kept talking, and eventually the topic drifted to holidays. Spooky Day was tomorrow, after all!
"Are you going to decorate for it?" Mirabel asked Carlos.
"Not this time." Carlos answered. "Next year, probably. But there hasn't been time to put anything out this time. Definitely for Harvestfest, though."
Once they were done eating, Carlos and Mirabel moved to the sofa to watch a movie together. After flicking through some of the options, they decided on Diamonds are for Sims, a newly released action movie starring Judith Ward herself.
The fact that his sister was good friends with Judith's step-son was still mind-blowing to Carlos.
When the movie was over, Mirabel started to get ready to leave. She had another ranch tour tomorrow, and she needed her rest.
"Before you go, can I ask you something?" Carlos blurted out.
"Of course, what is it?"
Carlos almost lost his nerve, but persevered. "These last few nights spending time with you have been some of the best I've ever had. Would you like to be my girlfriend?"
Mirabel blinked, then blushed. "I would like that." She agreed shyly. "I would like that a lot."
With their relationship official, the couple exchanged a kiss, then bid each other goodnight.
Friday morning saw a hint of clouds in the sky, perfect weather for Spooky Day. Carlos just hoped it didn't rain, he was looking forward to seeing the trick-or-treaters later.
He had a job that afternoon at another painting class, and they'd said he could come in costume, which he was absolutely going to take advantage of.
Carlos dressed up as a Batuu pilot, and headed off to work! He'd always loved the stories of Batuu, the daring resistance fighters pushing back against the wicked imperials... he'd probably never actually go there, though.
When Carlos got back from his teaching gig, he was pleasantly surprised to find Eirwen there. She couldn't stay long, she told him, but she'd wanted to stop and see how he was settling in.
"You did pretty well for yourself, it looks like."
"I'll have you and the rest of the family over for dinner soon." Carlos promised.
"I look forward to that, then. I'd better be going, have a good day, Carlos."
Sitting down to dinner that evening, Carlos' phone rang. When he answered it, Mirabel was on the other end of the line and sounded quite upset. "Carlos, I'm so sorry to have to ask this- I need somewhere to stay. The orphanage told me I have to leave TONIGHT."
Carlos didn't hesitate. "Pack up your things and come over. I'll make up the guest bedroom for you."
Mirabel arrived not long after that, her few possessions in tow. "I won't intrude long, I promise. Just until I can find an apartment."
"Don't even worry about it." Carlos reassured her. "Stay as long as you need, there's plenty of space. I'm going downstairs to wait for the trick-or-treaters, let me know if you need anything."
Mirabel changed into her nightgown and laid down to relax on the bed. She was tired and disappointed- she hadn't thought that Miss Elizabeth would just throw her out like that, she'd waited for everyone else to find a place. It wasn't like she hadn't been looking...
She was lucky that Carlos was so kind and hospitable. She resolved not to be an imposition...
Part of her was a little excited they'd be so close, now. She heard him coming back up the stairs as the night set in further, and wondered if he'd gotten to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters like he wanted. She'd have to ask him in the morning.
Maybe this would be for the best, after all.
The next post will likely be delayed a little bit, as I wait for mods to patch after the base game update!
My next chapter will begin the Lost Legacies Event that started today, along with returning to Aurelia Cheng's perspective.
Thank you for staying with me so far, and I hope you're enjoying the stories!
