Summer Engagement
Aukai has been working on a little project in secret since the citrine arrived in the mail earlier that week. Whenever Liliana was busy gaming or cooking, Aukai would slip out to the balcony to work on it.
He'd known Liliana was the one since they started dating in high school, and he thought it was high time to make it official.
Friday saw the premiere of a new TV show called Northworld. Aukai and Liliana watched it together before heading off to classes that day.
It was pretty good. A little intense for Aukai's preference, but Liliana was fully invested.
After classes that day, Aukai asked Liliana if she wanted to go get dinner and have a proper date. Liliana readily agreed, suggesting a bistro diner in Newcrest that her family went to a couple times.
The diner was the perfect date spot, enchantingly lit with strings of fairy lights and with a lovely view of the surrounding town square. Aukai requested outdoor seating, and the two were settled out on the front patio under the string lights.
The food at the diner was incredible, and the aptly named Heart's Desire waffles Liliana ordered were quick to put her in the mood- as if she hadn't been already. Her boyfriend was the cutest guy there, after all.
When the two were on their way out, Aukai seized the opportunity to literally sweep Liliana off her feet, without care for who was watching.
They were in love, why should they care?
That night, their sleep was rudely interrupted by a ghost attempting to haunt the units. "Why must these things always happen at three in the morning?" Liliana couldn't help but grumble as she went to exorcise the ghost from their bathroom sink.
She grew up in Ravenwood, she was no stranger to the supernatural.
Aukai let Liliana sleep in that morning, but got up early himself to slip outside. Another hour of work saw the ring finally finished, and he put it away for later.
He'd planned the perfect time to propose.
Liliana had told him before that she wanted to see the world. She had a map hung up in their apartment, with frames attached for travel photos. So, the first place Aukai decided to knock off her checklist was Brindleton Bay.
Their date started at the Deadgrass Discoveries Museum, and would eventually take them to see the Brindleton Bay Lighthouse.
The couple walked down to the coastline first, and stood and watched the waves together. It was a much gloomier day than Aukai had hoped, but Liliana didn't mind.
"The fog on the ocean is beautiful. It reminds me of home."
Up on the deck of the lighthouse, looking out at the ocean, Aukai got down on one knee and proposed, using the delicate citrine ring he'd spent all week working on in secret.
"Lilli, I've known you were the one since our first date. Our first term living together has absolutely flown by, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you by my side. Will you marry me?"
Of course, Liliana said, "Yes!" When she'd idly dreamed of her wedding dress on her birthday, she never would've thought it would be so soon!
The newly engaged couple spent a couple hours watching the waves and the clouds along the coastline.
"We've gotta have my family over soon and tell them. They'll be so excited." Liliana told Aukai.
"Why not have them over tonight? No better time than the weekend. We can go home and prepare a nice dinner."
So that was exactly what they did. After sending off the invitation to Liliana's parents and sister, the couple spent an hour or two preparing a nice but simple meal for their visitors.
Aukai did teach Liliana how to make sea jelly pudding*, a favorite treat among the Mer!
The first little bit of the visit is spent chatting and catching up on regular stuff- though Liliana put a strict ban on corpse talk at the table. Her mother and sister were a little too invested in their work at times.
"Aukai and I have something to tell you all." Liliana announced once the general chit-chat had died down. "We are engaged!"
Leia couldn't be any happier for her sister, especially after Liliana pulled her aside to ask her something. "I want you to be my Maid of Honor, Leia. Couldn't imagine having anyone other than my sister by my side for that."
"Of course! I would be honored- I'm so happy for you, Lilli!"
"My little girl's all grown up." Teodor mused as he hugged Liliana goodbye that evening. "I can't wait to walk you down the aisle, sweetheart."
"It wouldn't be the same without you, Daddy."
